Taylor Swift - The Man
The basic message that the video shows is how ' The Man' controls everything and does what he wants and everyone loves him, by 'the man' it means rich white men. This is shown throughout the video as the main man is always front of camera shots and always in the centre of shots. The plot twist at the end showing that Taylor Swift was in fact playing the man the whole time, implying that a women can be just as good as the man and do all the same things. This is hinted just before the reveal by her sitting in the directors chair and this scene is also reflexivity where a text is aware of itself as it shows the characters coming off the set. Another point in the video is showing a hierarchy between men, in the boat scene the man in the sailor uniform is bringing a drink to the man then he gets shouted at by the man and backs off which shows there's a hierarchy between the rich and the poor. When he is with the kid in the park and on his own looking after her, everyone is amazed and look up to him for doing this although women do this all the time and are never recognised for it. In the strip club the man and his friends (presumably in a similar position to the man) are shown to be more civilised when compared to the 3 men fighting in the booth next to them implying that they are better than everyone else. Intertextuality through the appearance of a Tik Tok star Loren Gray. In the tennis scene the man goes through many emotions, excitedness/happiness, anger and sadness showing that he's bipolar.
